Beste Atasoy

Dr. Beste Atasoy, MD, MSc
Professor of Radiation Oncology

Professor Atasoy graduated from Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. She completed her Radiation Oncology fellowship at Marmara University School of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology in 2002. She earned her Master of Science in Radiobiology from University College London (Gray Cancer Institute) in 2003. Since 2005, she has been working at Marmara University School of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology, progressing from senior radiation oncologist to assistant professor in 2010, and professor in 2016, as well as serving as a lecturer. Her clinical interests include the treatment of head and neck tumors, central nervous system tumors, pediatric tumors, nutritional oncology, and experimental radiation oncology. She has authored 70 publications in international and national peer-reviewed journals, with 1538 citations. Her h-index is 19 and i10-index is 26.

She is a member of several professional societies, including:

Dimitrios A Velonis

Dr. Dimitrios A. Velonis

Dr. Velonis is a DDS graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After spending one semester at Malmoe Dental School, he completed his Oral Medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, where he also obtained his PhD in Biomedical Science and a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry. Currently, he is a scientific collaborator at the Oral Medicine and Pathology and Hospital Dentistry clinic at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has co-authored book chapters and scientific papers, and has presented at several national and international meetings. He is the 2003 recipient of the Hatton Award for research. His interests include pediatric oral medicine and laser applications in dentistry and oral medicine.

Marina Umansky Sommer

Dr. Marina Umansky Sommer

Dr. Umansky Sommer, an oral medicine specialist, graduated from the residency program of the Department of Oral Medicine, Sedation, and Imaging at the Hadassah Medical Center. Currently, she is a senior physician at the Oral Medicine Unit at Sheba Tel Hashomer. She is in charge of the oral and maxillofacial pain clinic and also practices dental and restorative treatment for medically complex patients.

Temporomandibular joint hypermobility is a common occurrence among Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) patients, a condition that can cause pain and discomfort during daily activities such as eating, yawning, and even talking. Due to the hypermobility of the joint, not all conventional conservative treatments may be suitable for hypermobile patients.
