Ingrīda ČĒMA, Dr. habil. Med. Professor

Professor I. Cema (DOB: August 31, 1954) is an educationist, specialist, researcher and administrator in Oral Medicine. She graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, Riga Medical Institute (1979) and became Habilitated Doctor of Medicine (PhD in 1998). She has been a Professor of Oral Pathology since 2000. She has over 30 years of experience as a dentist and maxillo – facial surgeon. She has been working at RAKUS Oncology Centre of Latvia – Head and Neck Department (1988 -2000) and at the Outpatient Department (2000 -2022). She has been Head of Department of Oral Medicine at the Riga Stradins University and Clinical Department at Institute of Stomatology (2001-2022). She was a member of Scientific advisory council Riga Stradins University (2009 – 2019); served as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Riga Stradins University (2003 – 2013).
She is member of several Associations, including Member of the European Oral Medicine Association, Society of Oral Medicine and Pathology of Latvia, Honorary Member of the American Academy of Oral Medicine (2010).
At present - Expert of the Latvian Science Council; Member of Constitutional Assembly of Riga Stradins University; Member of RSU Research Ethics Commission. Member of the editorial board of journal „Stomatology. Baltic, Dental and Maxillo-facial surgery”; editor-in-chief of the Oral Medicine / Oral Pathology Advisory Board Section Stomatology EDU Journal (Romania).
Has developed and leads the following courses for local and international students:
Clinics and morphology of skin and oral mucosa diseases; Treatment of complex oral pathology; Manifestations of systemic diseases in the oral mucosa; Communication culture in dentistry. Conducts lectures and seminars in the master’s study programme of Oral, facial and maxillofacial surgery and . Periodontology.
She authored 93 publications in peer reviewed and local medical journals, more than 112 oral and poster presentations in international congresses and conferences, more than 100 presentations in local conferences, seminars, working meetings.
Research interests: Oral precancers and oral squamous cell carcinoma, treatment of melanoma

Mari is currently doing her PhD studies about oral lichen planus and the association to other comorbidities, especially hypothyroidism. In addition, she works in the private practise as a periodontist.
